Mitr Phol Group, one of the world’s leading sugar producers and a recognized global leader in sustainability within the food production sector, together with its affiliate East Asia Sugar Group (EAS) — the largest sugar producer in Guangxi Province and the third largest in the People’s Republic of China, are proud to present a joint showcase at the Thailand–China Cooperation Expo 2025. Held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, it reflects over 32 years of continued partnership, marked by the exchange of knowledge and expertise to sustainably strengthen the sugarcane and sugar industry of the two countries.
Mr. Buntoeng Vongkusolkit, Chairman of Mitr Phol Group, stated: “For more than 32 years, Mitr Phol Group and East Asia Sugar Group — our sugar business arm in the People’s Republic of China — have advanced together under the shared vision of ‘Grow Together’. This is not just a slogan; it is a core principle that guides how we do business — both in Thailand and in every country where we operate, especially China. We have always believed in building opportunities through the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and experience that bring mutual benefit to both nations. Mitr Phol has contributed to China’s development by sharing advanced practices in precision farming, as well as innovations and technologies in sugar production that support environmentally responsible business growth. In return, we have brought valuable innovations and energy expertise from China to elevate capabilities within Thailand. Our partnership also includes a strong commitment to talent development through educational initiatives and training across multiple disciplines. These collaborative efforts reflect our continued commitment to transforming the sugarcane and sugar industry, and we remain dedicated to deepening this partnership. Together, we are working toward a more sustainable future by contributing to the development of a Green Industry — one that creates long-term value and promotes sustainable growth.”

For over three decades, Mitr Phol Group and East Asia Sugar Group have gone beyond simply operating in the sugarcane and sugar industry. Together, they have laid a strong, long-term foundation for comprehensive development across four key dimensions. This includes the transfer of knowledge in modern, precision agriculture through the “Mitr Phol Modern Farm” model, which follows the globally recognized Bonsucro Standard for sustainable sugarcane farming. This approach enhances productivity, reduces costs, and promotes environmental stewardship—critical factors in sustainably improving farmers’ quality of life. In parallel, it strengthens the long-term competitiveness of China’s sugarcane and sugar industry, aligning with the national “Double High” policy—a government initiative aimed at developing sugarcane plantations with high yield and high sugar content. To support this vision, East Asia Sugar Group has established more than 14 Modern Agricultural Technology Learning Centers, serving as comprehensive training hubs for both employees and farmers.
Furthermore, the sugar production process has been revolutionized into a zero-waste system by converting residues into valuable resources—a concept known as Waste to Value Creation. Cutting-edge technologies are leveraged to elevate the quality of sugar products while expanding into biomass power generation using sugarcane bagasse and leaves. The business portfolio extends to yeast production from molasses, fertilizer manufacturing, and bio-protein animal feed, fostering a circular economy that adds substantial value throughout the entire sugarcane industry. These operations have earned certification as environmentally friendly factories (Green Factory Certification). East Asia Sugar Group has successfully adapted Mitr Phol Group’s proven co-generation system—producing both heat and electricity—in Thailand. Currently, they operate three biomass power plants fueled by sugarcane bagasse with a combined capacity of 90 megawatts, contributing to an annual reduction of over 210,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Economic development is another core focus of the company, emphasizing income distribution to sugarcane farmers while enhancing their quality of life and well-being. Concurrently, the company actively promotes education and community development by facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise to improve curricula, teaching quality, staff capabilities, students’ skills, and the competencies of Mitr Phol Group employees. To support this, the company has partnered with Khon Kaen Advanced Agricultural Technology College, signing a collaboration agreement to foster knowledge and technology sharing with leading educational institutions in China. These include Guangxi Vocational and Technical Institute of Industry, with which they jointly established the “Thai-Chinese Sugar Industry Skilled Technicians Institute,” and the “Modern Electrical Energy Technical College,” created in partnership with Guangxi Electrical Polytechnic Institute. Furthermore, the company has signed cooperation agreements with Guangxi International College and the Faculty of Agriculture at Guangxi University to collaboratively develop educational personnel.
After 32 years of collaborative development between Mitr Phol Group and East Asia Sugar Group, the partnership will continue to advance by strengthening capabilities through the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and technology between the two countries, guided by the vision of ‘Grow Together’. This vision is the cornerstone for driving and elevating the Thai-Chinese sugarcane and sugar industry towards resilient and sustainable growth, while jointly building a brighter future.
